Volkswagen case study
Volkswagen & A-SAFE
To ensure safety in design at a new Volkswagen logistics centre, A-SAFE advised the installation of iFlex barriers, ground level protection and dedicated racking defence solutions
Customer
Volkswagen Group is a multinational, German automotive company responsible for the Audi, Volkswagen, ŠKODA and SEAT brands, with 120 production plants worldwide and over 600,000 employees.
Situation
Volkswagen required health and safety solutions to be designed in for its new logistics centre in Germany. The 55,000 square metre unit compromises two warehouses that operate 24/7, supplying 7.5 million vehicles with components per year.
Volkswagen needed specific protection for new racking systems, walls, columns and fire equipment to safeguard the facility against damaging collisions by forklift trucks.
Solution
Completed in a two-stage installation, A-SAFE manufactured, supplied and installed RackGuards and iFlex RackEnd Barriers to protect the integrity of the warehouse’s new racking structure. We also fitted iFlex Double Traffic Barriers to safeguard equipment and define vehicle traffic routes – including distribution boxes, control cabinets and glass enclosures.
Kerb Barriers were installed for zone control purposes, and to shield the building’s perimeter at ground level, preventing dangerous penetration from vehicle forks. Finally, a bespoke Column Protection solution was created to blend perfectly with the facility’s modern and functional design and ensure the fabric of the building was safeguarded against operations.
Our iFlex barriers are purpose-designed to provide industry-leading workplace protection. On impact, they absorb kinetic energy, dissipating it through the barriers to minimise damage to the floor, before flexing back to their original shape.
